RUTH ADELIA HAUGAN ANTHES

Although we mentioned the passing of Ruth Anthes last month, we would like to reprint her entire obituary below. It was sent to us by her son John of Cedar Crest, New Mexico, at his mother’s request. In his letter he said, “Mom indicated to me that her association with the Questing Heirs Genealogical Society was very energizing and helpful at conducting her own family history. She related how she was surprised and delighted to trace her ancestors back in time to qualify as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. And Mom discovered a Foote Family Arms going way back also on her Mother’s side….She was 84 years young on July 11th.”


From the Long Beach Press-Telegram of July 30, 2005:

“I knew this was going to happen and I am ready now. I’d like to thank my mother, father, and all my previous ancestors for good health and a rich long life.” Ruth passed away peacefully on July 20, 2005 at home in Cerritos, CA. She was born July 11, 1921 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Ruth graduated from Oshkosh HS in 1939 and received a BS in elementary teaching from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh in 1946. She married Jacob Anthes in June 1946 and subsequently raised a loving family of five children. Ruth moved to California in 1964 and has been a resident in Cerritos since 1971. She is survived by children, John in Cedar Crest, NM, Richard in Redding, CA, Susan in Colorado Spring, CO, Thomas, in Greenwich, RI, James in Cerritos, CA; and four grandchildren, Jason, Julie Sumner, Sarah Harpst, and Rachael. Ruth taught in the Long Beach Early Education program at numerous schools, retiring with 16 years of rewarding memories with her “extended” family in 1987. She was an active participant in the Lakewood Senior Citizens Club where she was known as the “Sunshine Lady.” Ruth was a 61 year lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Sons of Norway. Services will be held Saturday, July 30th, 2 PM, at Miller-Mies Mortuary 11015 Downey Ave., Downey, CA 90241.”
